about

Juniper and Cinnamon is the new Lost Shadow album released on the 12th of December 2008. The album consists of twelve songs in a very small and minimalist mood.

In December 2006, when I had just finished the Intuition and Decision album, I visited a store that sold tea, spices and other such things. The atmosphere was extremely cosy and nice, and I started thinking about making an album deeply connected to spices. At the same time I had just decided not to work with acoustic instruments again for a long time. So the idea was sort of put on ice. But in the Autumn of 2007, when the electronic Truths and Consequences album had been released, I once again revived this idea, skipping the spices connection, but keeping the closeness and cosiness of the spices store.

Through the Spring I had been fascinated with Emiliana Torrini’s work on Fisherman’s Woman, and I thought that making an album in the same mood as hers would be the goal of my project. So I went back to the guitars, and stated for myself to only use one main instrument, and occasionally an instrumental overdub, on each song. I almost stayed to this rule, making this album my most minimalist this far, if you choose to look at minimalism that way.

The first single released from it was Wrong. The second single released from this album Train. The third and last single taken from Juniper and Cinnamon was Pirate Bay.

All music and lyrics written by Johan Bengtsson. Johan Bengtsson played piano, electric piano, guitar, electric guitar, bass, organ, melody box samples, and performed vocals. Drum programming on Cinnamon was also made by Johan Bengtsson. The pirate singing on Pirate Bay was made possible with the help from Olle Sun- din, Anna Palme, John Bondestam Malmberg, Emmeli Sjöqvist, Lars Aronsson and Saga Win- gård. Carl Johan Landgren kindly recorded and programmed the melody box samples used on Train. For this, I am very grateful, and I encourage you all to visit his Myspace page: www.myspace.com/carljohanlandgren. Janne Bengtsson provided the train recording used on Train, which was perfect, and I am very grateful for this too. All other recordings were made by Johan Bengtsson. The piano, electric piano, organ and drum recordings were made at Phonocratic Records in Göteborg. The walking and fireplace recordings, as well as the vocal recordings for Irrelevant and Sleep, as well as a few takes for Silver Spoons were re- corded at Phonocratic Mobile in Greggered. The rest of the recordings were made on Phonocratic Mobile in Göteborg. Anna Palme handled the fireplace with great brilliance and care, making us both warm, as well as providing me with great sounds for this album. All tracks was mixed and produced by Lost Shadow. Mastered at Phonocratic Mastering.
